Gori Tere Pyaar Mein (2013)

Romantic Comedy: 7/10

So we have a playboy and a human rights activist who are in love.  Sounds like an amazing opposites attract type deal.  And it is.  What is better is that it is more than just her teaching him to be less of a loser, she learns too.  It is about learning, growing, and giving a shiz, and we have two great actors to portray all this character development, Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor.

Sriram (Imran Khan) is a wastrel black sheep of his family.  He disapproves of his father's money ways and being straight laces, etc.  He is super bummish and disrespectful because of it.  His family decides to just marry him off.  He agrees because the girl is beautiful and he is done with all that.  She is actually in love with someone else, who is a human rights activist.  He warns her away from them and then ends up telling his fiancee about Dia (Kareena Kapoor), the girl he was is in love with.  Through this wonderful story telling we get to hear more and more about her and how they fell in love and how he basically still is in love with her, and so he has to get some sense knocked into his head.  I don't want to give everything away.

I love how the story is told.  Even though we see Dia first through his eyes, and mosaically, we are able to learn who she is despite his generalizations, so when we finally meet her all the pieces fit together wonderfully.

I also love that this isn't the classic Northern India tale that most Bollywood movies are.  His family is from Tamil, he lives in Bangladesh, she is from New Delhi, but they end up in Gujarat, helping the smallest village build a bridge so they can improve their quality of life and not die every time they have to leave the village (by literally walking across a rope bridge that is basically tightrope walking).

Sadly, the first two songs are super dumb, but gladly the music gets better as we learn more about our characters and they start falling in love.  So here are my favorite songs:

Favorite Songs:
Dil Duffer and Naina

Favorite Dance:
Chingam Chabake
