Cocktail (2012)

I awaited this to come on to video in the US ever since I saw a preview for it, so like since it came out.  I wanted to watch it because Saif Ali Khan and it looked funny.  It did not disappoint me.  It is a strangely typical yet random film.  It's obviously a romcom love triangle type deal, but while it follows the predictable, it's still surprised me several times.  Also, it's only have romance and the other half is focused on friends and loyalty.

So Meera (Diana Penty) is a traditional Indian girl who goes to London to be with her husband.  It was an arranged marriage and she hasn't seen him since.  At the airport she is hit on by Gutlu (Saif Ali Khan) but she rejects him.  She finally finds her husband, who only married her for her money, and she is left abandoned in London with no place to stay.  Then she meets Veronica (Deepika Padukone) who decides to help her and they become roommates.  Later Gutlu shows up, sleeping on their couch, and he and Veronica are casually dating.  He ends up moving in and the three of them become best friends/roommates.  Then the real mash up of drama happens when Gutlu's mother shows up.

It's super funny when appropriate and also deep and meaningful.  It was surprising enough at times that I didn't think it was boring because it was too formulaic.  It was formulaic, but it was also a bit refreshing... in a weird way.  But I still liked it, even when it was naughty in spots.  Also, Saif looks really good in this one.  Rawr.
