Action Comedy 5/10
Everyone told me that Dhoom 2 was better than Dhoom. Well that's just not true. They are pretty much exactly the same. I am really glad that I watched Dhoom first though, because it definitely made Dhoom 2 better. Especially with Ali's daydream jokes. The only think that makes this one better is Hrithik Freakin' Roshan, who consequently might be one of the sexiest men alive.
So, it's not any better in plot or how clever it is. It has a bigger budget and that's nice. It also has a better love story... not that it's a good love story, it's just better because Dhoom really didn't have much of a love story at all. But somehow it manages also to objectify women even more than the first one... if that was even possible, but it did. Wow. Pretty offensive if you think about it. But the point of these movies is to not think at all, because then you'll probably just hate them because they are awful.
I really missed that "Dhoom! Dhoom! Dhoom!" in the background when anything cool happened. Oh well.
So, Hrithik Roshan is pretty hot. Also his character was pretty cool. His master of disguise thing was awesome. So some of his heists were just plain cool to watch. I feel like Jai and Ali (Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra) became less important and even stupider in this one, which is probably why I liked it less. Also, it gets really moralizy and preachy at the end, which severely lessened its coolness. I feel like they changed Jai's character even. Blah. It's ok. It's still fun to watch with plenty of ridiculous chase scenes and overused explosions.
I did like how the real love story made at least one female character less objectified. I liked Aishwarya Rai's character okay, even if she wasn't the romantic lead for Bachchan, the man she later married, but it's ok.
