Romantic Comedy: 5/10
Well, I wasn't really expecting much from this show. It looked cheesy. But that's not always a bad thing. But I was disappointed in the ending. The first half was ok, but when everything went dramatic and they were fighting all the time, it was not so fun. Then the ending didn't make up for that crap enough. So it's ok, but it's not my favorite. I do have to admit that it was just me being picky about immaturity that wasn't addressed that made me like it less. I wanted to see more growth.
So we have a lazy, immature boy (Ranveer Singh) who graduates college with no plan. To escape having to go back home to work on the sugarcane farm, he partners up with an ambitious girl (Anushka Sharma) who he met when he crashed a wedding. She has a dream to be the best wedding planner. At first she's like, "no dude, you can't be my partner," but he has the salesmanship she lacks, so they become the perfect team. The problem is that her philosophy is that love and relationships ruin business, and since she's teaching him everything from scratch, that becomes his motto too.
So you all can predict where this is going. They fall in love, but that ruins their business, so they fight it, and end up fighting for basically the whole second half of the show, and it's hard to watch that half. I was reminded of Salaam Namaste, which was basically the same... only they got pregnant in that one, and he was a little bit more mature by the end.
That was the part that bugged me the most. I didn't think he matured enough at the end, and in my old age (which isn't really that old, but I am adulting now) that isn't cool. It just bothered me, but didn't bother one of my friends I watched it with, while the other was completely along with me on the bother train. Anyways, there you have it.
What made it work ok was the couple's chemistry, which is better proved by just watching Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, as they are the couple in that one too. Also, Ranveer is sexier as Ricky Bahl, because who doesn't love a sexy conman? But he's just sexy, so that made it work too... a bit.
Also the Shahrukh references were just fun. That was a plus.
