Wake Up Sid (2009)
This movie was surprisingly boring. It was still cute and meaningful, but so boring. It was very slow paced, and also not a lot happened.
From the title you can see that it's a coming of age film about a kid named Sid who needs to wake up. This is meaning grow up basically. Waking up to reality and getting a grip on life. But since it is about waking up to reality, nothing really happens because that's the way life really is. Life is boring.
So Sid (Ranbir Kapoor) is a rich kid, who doesn't want to think about his future, although he's graduating college and all his friends have a life plan. He meets this older girl, Aisha (Konkona Sen Sharma), who is new to Mumbai, at a farewell party and they become friends. Despite his attraction to her, she insists that they only be friends because he is still such a kid and she is looking for a man. She then gets a job as an assistant to the editor of this magazine, who seems to be more of her ideal type of man.
The most exciting thing that ever happens in the show is the big drama of when he fails his tests and runs away from home. So dramatic. But living away from home just reemphasizes the fact that he needs to grow up. Especially when Aisha gets mad at him for being such an immature bum and clinging to her when she's had a crappy day at work. Eventually it gets to the point where Aisha also sees that she needs to wake up and reevaluate herself and her own maturity level.
Then there is another dramatic part at the end that seems to unnecessary that I was like, what? Is this the same movie? It was so randomly dramatic that it wasn't dramatic and just seemed silly. Oh well.
I think for pretty much the whole movie I was also playing a game on my cellphone because it was boring. Not bad, just not exciting and super slow moving. But I thought that it had a good message, and it definitely made me want to get a little more motivated about following my dreams and finding a place of my own.
No dancing, except the closing credits:
Wake Up Sid!
But here is the song that I think I liked the best:
Aaj Kal Zindagi
The lack of dancing is a sad waste of Ranbir's talent, but since it would hardly help the point they were trying to make, I can forgive that, I guess.
