Bride and Prejudice (2004)
While this is not really a Bollywood (it really isn't), it has some of the elements of a Bollywood. I'll be honest, after my first film, Dil Chahta Hai, I didn't know where to look next. I had watched it with a friend and she only gave me some vague suggestions, such as films with Aamir Khan in them ☺.
I had already planned to watch Bride and Prejudice because of Alexis Bledel, who I have liked since the Gilmore Girls days. She is one of the better parts of the movie.
It does have a few good song and dance numbers, even if the songs are mostly in English, and is an interesting twist on the story of Pride and Prejudice, but really that is all we can call it. Aishwarya Rai, who plays the Elizabeth Bennet character, is a great actress and dancer, while Martin Henderson, unfortunately our Darcy... is not. He's not even really attractive. Especially when you compare him to Naveen Andrews, who plays the Bingley character. He is a decently attractive man and pretty good dancer.
Other elements that is borrows from Bollywood is Anupam Kher, who is practically a must for any Bollywood, usually as someone's dad. As usual, he plays the girl's dad, the Mr. Bennet character, and as usual is delightful.
The best song is Balle Balle, which is the most Bollywood song and dance, as it is an example of a Punjabi wedding dance.
So while this is NOT a Bollywood film, it is still a cheesy cute film that is maybe worth a watch... once.
