I said Shahrukh made me love him in Kal Ho Naa Ho... well... hopeless now. Kuch Kuch made me obsessed with him for life. I think it's his hair. His hair is soooooo sexy. Especially in this one... especially that one scene where it's raining so his hair is wet, and he's wearing that open black shirt... yeah. I'm a goner. Shahrukh, why you make me love you?!?!
It doesn't help at all that this film starts out with him crying. Don't do that cry face, Shahrukh, you make me cry every time you make that cry face. This is a love triangle story, but it's more of a reuniting the first loves that didn't know they were in love until it was too late, but we're still going to reunite them type story. It's also one of the most famous, best loved, Bollywood romances out there. Seriously, everyone needs to see this one, at least so they can get the references made to it in other films (see my Mujhse Dosti Karoge! post for reference), but mostly because even though it's cheesy, it's wonderful.
I made the mistake of watching it with a group once... well that wasn't the mistake, the mistake was letting a dude with no interest in Bollywood be there. Yes, this film is cheesy. Especially some of the songs. However, it is also passionate, sad, beautiful, sexy, fun and incredibly addictive. It's relatable too. Anjali, played by the fabulous Kajol, is the one who makes me cry the most, actually. I was like "Girl! Don't cry! Anjali!!!!!" Suddenly reduced to blubbering. (Bollywood! What have you done to me! Why do I suddenly cry in movies?" All those tom boyish girls always reduced to "bro" status will understand.
Then there is Rani Mukerji. She is a supporting role and she is great as well. She isn't hatable, even as a perfect princess-like other girl. You have to like her. You have to cry and love her too.
Ok, I talked about a lot of crying, but really this show is mostly happy/cheesy/sexy (that raining dance scene, whew!). It's really good, even if it's dramatic. Plus... yes. it's just good. There is also a extended cameo special appearance by Salman Khan, but I don't like him very much so I won't go into that. The end.
