Barfi! (2012)
This movie is pretty amazing. I am especially impressed with Ranbir Kapoor. He plays the lead role so well and expressively that I'm putting him on a list of actors whose movies I need to watch. I am also super super impressed with Priyanka Chopra, once again. She is a real actress who isn't just attractive, but has some serious acting chops.
Barfi! is about a man named Murphy (aka Barfi- Ranbir Kapoor) who, from birth, can't talk and maybe can't hear, I don't remember. Anyways, he is super cool and mischievous, like a little troublemaker. Then he falls for this girl, Shruti (Ileana D'Cruz), but she's engaged and despite her liking him too, she has to leave because there is no way her mom was going to let her marry a disabled poor dude. Then Barfi's dad gets sick and he needs to get money to pay for his hospital expenses. So he ends up trying to kidnap his autistic childhood friend Jhilmil (Priyanka Chopra). Instead he ends up rescuing her from actually getting kidnapped by some actual bad peeps. He sees her getting kidnapped and helps her. He ends up getting the ransom money too late, as his dad dies. He tries to send Jhilmil back, but she keeps following him, and they end up leaving together. Then Shruti pops back into his life, much to Jhilmil's sadness, and some love triangle stuff happens.
I think all the disabilities were handled really well, both in the writing and how Ranbir and Priyanka acted. It's a super fun, super sweet film. It's as much about friendship and accepting everyone as it is about love and marriage, etc. I really liked it. The music had a nice theme to it, like a more Latin sound and beat to it.
