Dil Bole Hadippa! (2009)

So, I decided to watch the movie because of Rani Mukerji and how pretty much awesome she is.  Then I realized, as I was looking at the promo poster for it that she is also the little bearded dude on the poster too.  I wouldn't have guessed.  Seriously.  She's awesome.

So this film is basically "She's the Man" or in other words a modern day sports adaptation of Twelfth Night.  Veera (Rani) loves cricket and dreams of playing in the big leagues.  She is a phenomenal player, but because she's a woman that doesn't seem possible.  But her town lies on the boarder with Pakistan and every year the Indian town has a friendly match with the neighboring Pakistani town.  Only the town team sucks and India loses every year.  The owner of the team, Vicky (played by the resident father Anupam Kher) is sick of losing so he tricks his son into coming so he can whip the team into shape.

Enter Shahid Kapoor.  Ow wow wow wow!  He is soooooooo hot!  His hair!  Rawr!  His smile, omo!  Best of all his arm muscles... mmmmmmmm.  Big fan of this dude.  Shahid plays the son, Rohan, obviously.  He basically grew up in London because his parents split with his mom living in London and his dad in India. He agrees to be captain of the team and holds tryouts.  Veera is excited at her opportunity, but isn't allowed in.  Obviously a woman's rights message, which I love love love.

Veera's family runs a dance troupe thing, and she is forced to dress as a man to be the stand in for the drunk main dancer (which is wonderful.  She is so good at doing the man dance!) which gives her the idea to dress as a man and have a chance to do the tryouts.  Obviously she and Rohan clash at first, but that only turns out hilarious.  I mean, when she first met him as herself they butted heads then too, so it's no wonder they did so when she was a man too.  But we all know what that mean (wiggling of the eyebrows).

So it's a very good adaptation of She's the Man/Twelfth Night and has a great women's equality message.  Plus, there is cricket, which is so fun to watch.  Also the other chick is apparently so hot that her name gets chanted in the background as she is coming and going.  That's always fun.  Watch out for the DDLJ reference.  It was so much better the second time around when I actually caught it!

  1. I laughed out loud at your "wiggles eyebrows" comment. Did you know that Rani helped choreograph "Discowale Khisko"? And that Anupam Kher is afraid of heights and the whole ferris wheel ride thing actually was kind of stressful and scary for him. And Shahid. Shahid. Shahid. That man is so hotte it's ridiculous. Ridiculously awesome! ;)
