Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge (2011)
When you watch enough of a certain type of film, then Netflix starts suggesting them to you. I'm pretty sure that the only things recommended to me on Netflix are East Asian Dramas, East Asian Action Thrillers, and Bollywoods. After a while of indulging in the Saif, Shahrukh, and Aamir, I decided to branch out and watch another film that was just recommended to me based on what I had been watching a lot.
What first appealed to me about Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge, besides the similarity in title to Mujhse Dosti Karoge, was the face that it was a film commenting on Facebook and other social media sites and how they affect the way we make and upkeep relationships. Interesting. Also there are a million A's in the title. Fraaaaaaaaaaaaaaandship!
So, this is a more modern style of film, and has a lot more English and western styles than a typical Bollywood. It's about a bunch of college students who get involved with each other both online and in person, showing the differences in their interactions. Before you think that is boring, let me explain better.
Vishal (Saqib Saleem) is secretly the songwriter for his (hot!) college rockstar friend Rahul (Nishant Dahiya) and at one of Rahul's concerts he briefly meets the gorgeous Malvika (Tara D’Souza). He send her a friend request as both himself and as Rahul, who has a Facebook account, but rarely uses it since he is so popular. Preity (Saba Azad) is Malvika's best friend and roommate and has a small crush on Rahul (he's a freakin hot rockstar, who wouldn't?) and so accepts the request for Malvika, using Malvika's account to interact with Rahul, who is really Vishal.
In real life Preity and Vishal hate each other and are forced to work together on the school's anniversary project and are at constant odds with each other, basically just messing with and pissing the other person off at all costs. Eventually they become friends when they finally start acting more mature, but the real problem comes when they start trying to meet the people they thought they were being friends with on Facebook and things start not adding up.
It's a super fun film and also has a bit of a message with the whole cyber relationships versus face to face ones, and being yourself is the best. Also even though their hotter friends are hot, the main couple are super attractive too, so win win!
