Paheli (2005)

This one is weird.  It kinda weirded me out too much for me to really like it.  Especially the ending.  That left a bad taste in my mouth.  weird.

It has Shahrukh.  It has Rani.  You'd think that it would be great and I would love it, but it was just a bit too creepy for me.  Not in a scary way, but in a "what? that's weird" way.  I mostly wanted to watch it for first the people who starred in it, but also because the poster has Shahrukh wearing this awesome turban thing.  It's also based on a short story fairy tale thing.  Sounds cool, huh.

Well, it's about a bride who is basically left alone on her wedding night as her husband is sent off to work right away.  Then this ghost, who fell in love with her, visits her, disguised as her husband.  Then there are these weird talking dolls who basically analyze the whole story, pointing out things and telling us what the ghost is up to.  Those were a bit creepy too.

So Shahrukh gets to play both the husband and the ghost.  That's cool.  Rani is the wife, cool.  But it was just a bit off in the execution of the story and especially ending.  So watch it only if you love Shahrukh and/or Rani and want (or don't mind) to be weirded out.  There are a lot of good dances, and it's a pretty good story, it's just the weirdness that stuck in my mind.  You all might like it way more than me.

The end.
