Mohabbatein (2000)

The thing I love about this one is that it has a ton of big group dances and they are mostly connected to some kind of holiday or festival, such as Holi.  It's also got an awesome star studded cast from Shahrukh Khan to  Amitabh Bachchan.  It also has not just one love story, but like four... maybe even five.

We've got three boys heading off to this prestigious all boys university that has Amitabh as the principle.  He's very stern and especially doesn't allow people to fall in love.  They will be expelled if they get into a relationship, because relationships ruin academic progress.  So naturally the plot is about how these three boys fall in love in spite of that.  Naturally they are roommates too.  Then we have Shahrukh popping in as the new music teacher.  This is already contraversial since the principle doesn't think that music is necessary, but he allows it for now.  Then the new teacher pretty much does everything that the principle hates, and especially advocates love.  He also tells his story about how even though he lost his love, he doesn't regret loving.  Cue tears.  Seriously.  He makes the cry face and I'm done. Wahhahahaha!

Then there are boys' love stories:

Sameer (Jugal Hansraj) is in love with his childhood friend who moved away, right to the town where his new school is at.  She's dating a popular dumb dude, but Sameer has a chance, if he could ever confess to her.

Vicky (Uday Chopra) meets a spoiled, rude girl from the near by all girls university, likes her, but especially likes to cut her down to size so she can be less rude and true to herself.

Karan (Jimmy Shergill) falls instantly in love with this girl he sees waiting at the train station, and then stalks her in a not creepy way until he can meet her.  She's basically a widow, but her father-in-law won't admit to that, so he just tries to make her happy.

And then you have music teacher Raj (Shahrukh Khan) who's love (Aishwarya Rai) is dead.  But that doesn't mean she can't pop up into scenes, keeping him company and listening to his thoughts and plans.

Lots of cool dancing, lots of beautiful people... especially the men folks.  Lots of anger and then sorting out misunderstandings.  Also bonus, old people romance between Kake (Anupam Kher) and Preeto (Archana Puran Singh) who are the same couple as in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.  This leads to multiple Kuch Kuch references, even quoting the title song of that film.
